From a young age I have been able to participate in a positive sport environment. At the age of 7, I began Karate. I observed the competitive team and had positive role models to encourage me as I progressed and eared my first degree black belt. In 2013, I competed in my first ever National Karate Championship. From there, I realized that competing and training was my happy place. As I grew older and became more invested in the sport, I eventually join the competition team. After training 5 days a week for multiple hours on end and competing for many years, I was invited and competed for the USA National Karate team in Dundee Scotland, 2019. This opportunity taught me independence, commitment, humility, and respect. Because of Covid-19 my training moved to virtual only. By March of 2021, my team disbanded and I was encouraged to give my brothers crew team a try. I quickly learned fast catches, proper form, and teamwork. While being a competitive athlete, it has taught me the importance of balancing school, family, and friends. Over the years my coaches and teammate's have shaped who I am, teaching me valuable leadership skills, respect, dignity, sportsmanship, teamwork, consistency, communication, and a strong work ethic. I hope to offer these character qualities to a future rowing team and college community.
