Hi! I'm Colleen Carpenter, I go by Callie, and I row for Indianapolis Rowing Center. I joined the team in the fall of my seventh grade year when I was 12. I always attend many summer camps every summer to stay busy, and no other summer camps were running during the summer of 2020 due to COVID. We had some family friends who rowed, so I ended up at IRC. My first fall season was a little slow due to no regattas and a cancellation of the last month of the season, but it turned around come spring. My first race was a virtual race, CRASH-B's, where the IRC athletes raced in the gym at a local high school. I was very nervous for that race. That race, my first full effort 2k, ended up being an 8:46, the fastest of the 5 IRC athletes in WU15 at 12 years old, and 11th/22 overall. During that race, I had most of the team yelling right behind me, which certainly helped me. That support of my team made me realize that I very much enjoyed rowing, and the rest is history. I have continued rowing year round, and I have enjoyed almost every minute of it. I'm known as a leader and problem solver on the team. One fact about me is my avid passion for trailer loading/regatta prep. Every trailer loading day, you will always be able to find me running around making solutions for problems, loading riggers, slings, and oars, fixing equipment at the last minute, and teaching younger rowers to do the same. Additionally, I can switch to either side wherever I'm needed!
Outside of rowing, I am a strong student and I am an avid musician. I play several instruments, sing and I am the second chair of the bass section in the top orchestra of seven at my high school. My goal is to major in Music Education with a strings focus.
