For the past three years, I’ve developed a deep love for rowing. As a member of the Women’s Varsity Rowing team at Waynflete, I’ve had the privilege to compete in both fall and spring seasons, but my commitment to the sport extends beyond just those seasons. I’ve spent summers training with Great Bay Rowing in Dover, New Hampshire, and at specialized camps at Dartmouth College, each experience refining my skills and further fueling my passion.
This past year, I began rowing my own single racing shell and was soon entered into a race at the Textile River Regatta on the Merrimack River at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. As the only competitor from my team in the single category, I found myself drawn to the challenge. Rowing requires athletes to be both physically and mentally strong. I learned this is especially true when rowing as a single shell. I can also be found on Kennebunk Pond in the early morning hours, gliding across the water in my boat and enjoying the peace and quiet that nature offers.
What truly sets me apart as a recruit is my drive to be on the water as much as possible. When my team pulled out of a regatta, I still competed independently in my single, demonstrating my unwavering commitment. My family and I made the drive with my single strapped down to race in the New Hampshire Champions Regatta, where I qualified for the semi-finals. Transitioning from Waynflete to Great Bay Rowing in my senior year was another pivotal decision. With Great Bay, I’m part of a team that’s more competitive and offers six regattas, giving me the chance to seat race for events such as the Head of the Charles. My love for the sport motivates me to continuously seek new challenges, and I’m excited about the opportunity to seat race for these events.
Balancing my rigorous academic schedule at Waynflete Upper School with my rowing pursuits has shaped my character and work ethic. Additionally, my time with Great Bay this past summer created lasting connections with teammates and coaches, many of whom have become my closest friends. Whether it’s rock climbing after practice, grabbing food, or thrifting together, these bonds have only strengthened my love for rowing, making it easy to stay with such a competitive, supportive team.
I believe my dedication, both in and out of the boat, makes me a strong candidate for your program. My love for rowing drives me, and I’m eager to continue growing as an athlete at the collegiate level.
