I started competitive swimming at age 5, swam year-round, got state cuts, and made the varsity team my freshman year. My favorite part of swimming was the relay, I liked working as a team and motivating others, it also pushed me harder because my time affected the team. I took a learn to row class when I was 14, I wanted a new challenge. I fell in love with the sport and the way my lungs burned and the calluses that ripped up my hands. I joined a team and had a good freshman year, placing 3rd in the Island Sprints ergatta in the novice category. The pandemic provided me with extra time which I used to get stronger, I lifted weights independently, and had practices with my team in singles. Working out and rowing provided an outlet for me to put aside anything I was facing and relax, I look forward to returning to the water. I hope I have the opportunity to improve my skills and row on a collegiate team.
