As a dual sport athlete, I have learned many things about myself and my capabilities. Through pursuing rowing in high school while maintaining my training as a 10+ year competitive dancer, all the while, keeping laser focused on continuing to excel in my studies, I feel, speaks volumes to my determination and my personal drive to the many goals I have for myself and my future.
My goal once in college is to be a member of a competitive crew team where I can continue to elevate my performance and be a reliable teammate to those around me. I am open to constructive criticism to become better both on the water and in the classroom.
Academics mean a lot to my family and I. We believe that the balance between education and sports creates a disciplined and reliable individual with excellent time management skills. Whether in a boat, or in a classroom, I consider myself a hard-working team player who wants to perform at peak levels for the greater good of my team and for myself. I currently have a strong interest in the medical field, and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead within that career path.
As I mature, I am learning what a strong competitor I truly am. Whether it is in the last 250 meters of a race or something as simple as drinking more water to create a healthier lifestyle for myself, determination and follow through are critical when trying to compete in such a manner I have set for myself. Without being focused on end goals and ready to consistently put in the work, I notice how others seem to lose before they have even started. I refuse to let myself get sucked into such mindsets. Strong will and drive will always outperform the weak.
At the beginning of my sophomore year, I took on yet another challenge and accepted a job teaching dance to elementary and middle school students. Teaching has turned out to be so rewarding to my personal growth, guiding me to an even clearer understanding of what a truly coachable athlete means to me.
Through my busy athletic, academic and work schedules, I still always carve out time to serve in my community. Serving with my youth group at church and with my leadership team at dance has been some of the most rewarding times I have spent in recent years. This past Christmas, I organized the adoption of a veteran family of seven. Seeing my community pull together with gifts of clothes, shoes, toys and groceries ignited a fire for me to reach farther and do more next time.
All in all, I hold myself to what I consider to be some pretty high standards. With my family, teachers, coaches, mentors and teammates behind me, the sky is my only limit.
