Hi, my name is Avery Draper, graduating class of 2024. I currently attend Orchard Lake Saint Mary's Preparatory School. It was previously an all-boys school, but I am apart of the first all-female graduating and accepted class. I'm glad I'm apart of it too because of its high standards and well-known reputation. I believe I'm a magnificent candidate for your program because I have strong leadership skills, academic and athletic ability, as well as my character.
My leadership skills show especially in team practices and regattas. I'm always trying to get people hype (excited) for a race or calm them down after a loss. I think that's an essential part needed for a team. Part of my character would also include my competitiveness but also good sportsmanship. I tend to be very outgoing and always want to get to know people and try to push them to the best of their abilities that I know everyone has inside of them.
My academics are fantastic. It's reflected in my 4.24 overall GPA. I have been placed in honors and advanced math classes since 5th grade and have always excelled there. I am currently placed in every honors and AP class offered at my school of girls.
As for athletics, I'm always working to be a better team member and do my part. I tend to be training when other people aren't because they think it's off-season or time to play a different sport. However, in my mind, it's never offseason. I have also given up all other activities, such as dance and swim, just for rowing. I see that as a time to grow as an athlete and get better at my rowing. I'm also a great team member, in my opinion. It shows in my love to help people that may be struggling or behind. When it's in-season, I tend to be a starboard rower. However, I and also trained to be a portside. I am also trained to race and row a sculling boat, typically a bow seat.
I believe I stand-out against other recruits because of my character. My character stands out mostly because of past events put in front of me. They have changed me for the better, guided me to the person I am today. It would also include my academic and athletic drive, leadership skills, and kind-hearted personality. I hope to speak soon!
