Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Rebecca Klements. I stand at 5’5’’ and weigh 130 pounds. I have been rowing for 2 seasons(spring of 2020 would have been my third). I started my rowing experience spring of my sophomore year of high school as effective cross-training for competitive swimming. I never expected it to be anything more. After being on the water for one season I realized that rowing had become an important part of my life as an athlete; just as much as swimming. I love feeling the power in the boat that comes from teamwork not only during practices but especially on race days.

Rowing has increased my abilities to work with and as a team. The fact that every person has an impact on the speed of the boat makes me work harder as an individual. I am not only training for me; I’m training for my crew. I had the opportunity to row stroke during my first JV season, an experience that allowed me to be a leader on my team. Through determination and hard work I was placed in the varsity boat my second season of rowing. One of my goals is to drop my 2k time as close to 7:30 as possible. I am looking for a collegiate team that challenges me to be even stronger and more determined as an athlete every day. I hope to find a college community that supports their athletes, provides a positive team environment, and promotes a high quality education.
