Hello, my name is Helen Saunders. I started rowing my sophomore spring, but it just clicked the second I went out on the water. I have been an athlete for many years, with my primary sport previously being Irish dance. From this, I have applied skills like controlled movement, strength without sacrifice of technique, and controlled power to my rowing, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. Recently, I have asked my coach to help challenge me to improve my rowing, and I have learned how to sweep on both sides, scull, and be a steady and effective stroke seat. Despite being a brand new rower only half a year ago, I have improved and worked my way up so I am not only the youngest rower on the Girls Varsity 1 boat but am also in stroke seat. I am excited to see how I can continue to improve and pursue my dreams of competing and rowing at high levels.
