Emma King '16 Recruiting Profile

Hello! My name is Emmalynn King and I am a senior at Vineland High School. I have been rowing since my freshman year (2013). I had a successful freshman year on a novice four boat that won the Atlantic County Championships in our division. During my sophomore year I placed 2nd in the JV double category at the Atlantic County Championships. My junior year proved to be my most successful, with my boat placing 2nd in the lightweight 4 category at the Atlantic County Championships, placing 3rd at the Garden State Scholastic Championships, and ending with 4th place in the semi-finals at both the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and the SRAA Nationals. I see myself as a hardworking individual athletically, and also a well balanced student academically. I am ranked 9th out of 580 students in my graduating class, and am a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the World Language Honor Society.  I am a member of my high school's Select Choir and Madrigal Singers groups, which are competitive choral groups. As a member of the Rotary's Interact Club, since my 6th grade year, I was the youngest member to hold office as a freshman in high school, as well as the youngest president in District 7640 South Jersey as a sophomore. For the past four years I have participated in the District 7640 Leadership Conference. I was nominated, interviewed, and successfully approved to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference this coming June 2015. I attended the Naval Academy Rowing Camp this past summer (2014), where I improved my stroke, which helped me land a spot on the lightweight varsity 4 boat this past season (2015). I am also a published author, in a national Tourette's Syndrome publication for adults as well as their children's newsletter. My faith is very important to me, and I participate through many activities, such as being the children's choir conductor, a teacher's aid for the religious education program, an active volunteer in our Lifelong Faith Formation ministry, and a senior altar server. I will be attending a theology leadership conference at the University of Notre Dame this coming summer (2015). I am looking forward to college, with hopes of studying biology with aspirations of becoming a doctor. I plan on continuing my rowing career while in college. My friends call me a very kind, caring, and friendly person, and I know that I will be an asset to any collegiate rowing team.
