Personal Statement

As I’ve grown up, sports have always been a vital part of my life. Playing numerous sports in school, in clubs and recreationally – they have become the loves of my life. Soccer, basketball, flag football, swimming, futsal, skiing, skateboarding – they all have impacted me and made me a better athlete overall. I’m proud to say that I can even pogo stick and jump rope simultaneously.

But of all these sports, soccer is my passion. Everything from the technical skills, to the physicality of the game, to the team camaraderie excites me every time I walk on the field.

I’m proud of the following accomplishments in soccer to date:

  • As a member of the highly ranked MVLA O3 ECNL team coached by Erin and Albertin Montoya.
  • Competing with my MVLA team in ECNL and NPL 1 in Northern California as well as numerous showcase tournaments.
  • Member of the Cal North ODP team for the past two years, getting selected to the Region 4 ODP Regional Pool both of those years.

What sets me apart as a soccer player?

  • Excited to continue to learn and improve.
  • Powerful left foot.
  • Physical defender.
  • Enthusiastic on field leader – directing the team and communicating vocally to help clarify positioning and strategies during games.
  • Passionate and energetic teammate, always keeping things positive.

How does soccer influence my life off the field?

Playing competitive soccer has taught me many lessons in life. Just like I communicate well on the field, in the classroom I’m good at presenting ideas and sharing my opinions with others. It has also taught me discipline, persistence and the importance to always smile no matter how tough the situation. And to have respect for your opponents and the refs who are monitoring fair play. I may not always agree with them, but by giving them respect I am allowing myself the opportunity to play the best to my ability – without distraction.

I look forward to playing soccer in college. It continues to teach me life lessons and motivates me to be a better person and teammate.
