Personal Statement

Here’s a revised version of your message:

---

Hi Coaches,

My name is Raylyn Laney, and I play striker and left/right winger as a student-athlete at Pasadena City College (PCC). Previously, I played for Albion SV East Bay in San Leandro, CA. I’ve been playing soccer since I was 8, and my passion for the game has only grown over the years. At Holy Names High School in Oakland, CA, where I graduated, I was the team captain and top scorer.

Soccer is a major part of my life. I constantly watch games to study tactics and improve my own play. Whether it’s learning new moves or finding ways to better myself as a player, I’m always eager to grow.

Academically, I’ve always put in the effort to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and my college preparatory education has set a solid foundation for my future studies. I was also involved in leadership roles at my high school as a student body member and ambassador, and I continue to seek out leadership opportunities.

In addition to soccer, I have a passion for photography, spending time with my dog, and helping my mother with real estate. These activities help me stay grounded and balanced as I pursue both my academic and athletic goals.

I believe my dedication, leadership, and love for the game make me a strong candidate for your team, and I’m excited to continue growing and contributing at the collegiate level.

  • Evaluated at West (NorCal) Girls Academic 50 ID Camp on 07/25/2022 by Coach Vasquez of New Mexico Highlands University Technical Abilities Dribbling - Quality with ball at both feet. Good in tight spaces, and makes good use of moves to beat defenders. Ball Control - Quality first touch in space, and controls the ball under pressure. Tactical Abilities - Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. Physical Abilities - Endurance - Great work rate throughout camp. Showed endurance that helped effectiveness, especially late. Strength - Did a good job handling challenges and played well shoulder-to-shoulder. Mental Abilities - 87 / 100 Competitiveness - Showed a strong desire to win and seems to enjoy the competition. Keep working hard! Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Coach's Comments Outstanding attitude and a pleasure to coach at camp. Raylyn brings energy and emotion to every session. She has a great knowledge of the game and doesn't shy from a challenge. Her awareness on the field and her ability to create space helps create opportunities for teammates. As a 2023 grad, she still has time to develop and has the potential to become an elite player. She has a bright soccer career ahead of her. The college level is much more fast pace so if you're close to the 18 or in the box don't be afraid to finish it Make sure to communicate with your teammates, don't be afraid to call for the ball or say make a run to lay the ball off to your teammates. The college level is non stop talking your teammates will communicate from the goalie all the way up to the forwards and vise versa.
