Hello! my name is Quehtzali Ayala and I am 2021 grad. My journey of playing soccer started when I was 4 years old. I have played for both a club travel team and for my school's team since Elementary to present day. I have realized how big of an impact soccer has been in my life. For instance, it has become an efficient stress reliever for me. Not only that, but it definitely is a way of distracting myself and shutting everything else out.
Moreover, as a student-athlete it has shaped my work ethic and personality. I devote my time to soccer and my academics in order to improve on my performances. When I am training I am committed to perform and execute at my highest level, as well with my academics.
Since a young age I have accompanied my father to assess new projects where I was able to obtain basic knowledge in order to assist my dad. It is such an honor to assist my dad because it has allowed me to see how much support my dad needs since he was not able to obtain a college education. Therefore, I was interested in majoring in Civil Engineering. As a woman in a hispanic household we hardly see women entering this work force. Seeing that misogyny in the Hispanic culture we see how women are being minimized in interacting with “real” engineering work. Overall, I am determined to start and end my major in Civil Engineering. I would like to be a part of the group that reduces bias and stereotypes of women in the STEM program.
