My name is Mia Duncan. There is not one part of my life that I would put before soccer. I started playing at the age of 3 and due to money, couldn’t play club until I was 9 years old. After that my skill and love for the game grew at a much faster rate. As a became one of the top players within my club in Montrose Colorado and joined our western slope Olympic Development Program.
Eventually I outgrew the club in my home town and needed a new challenge. I now play for Fire FC a club out of grand Junction Colorado. I was fortunate enough to play in a Premier one league my first season. I've been there for 3 years now and was a part of a mixed team which I was the youngest player and we were Presidents Cup champions for the state of Colorado. Since then my team has gone undefeated for over a year and including being champions at tournaments like Vegas Cup, Presidents Day Tournament showcase in Phoenix, and Rapids Classic tournament. This team also succeeded in the sense that we were league champions in Premier 2 and will be moving up to Premier 1 this fall. I started my freshman year of high school as #3 ranked on varsity and played a full ninety minutes for most games. My sophomore year showed much improvement as I was one of the top performers holding the most assists and top 3 most goals on the team as an attacking midfielder.
One of my main obstacles I have had to overcome is my small size. This obstacle forced me to work harder and be more disciplined than my peers. Since I was 13 years old I've been in my local gym 5 days a week at 5:30 in the morning. Then after school, I would train at a soccer field a couple miles from my home which I rode my bike to. This obstacle also gave me a stronger pain threshold and mental toughness.
As a student, I am just as driven. I received a 4.0 GPA having my freshman year having taken all advanced classes. My sophomore year I achieved a 4.05 GPA with all honors and AP classes. As of my junior year I will be taking all AP classes
My goals for myself as a student are to end my high school career with a 5.0 gpa. I also hope to make a division 1 college team. I have big goals but no doubt I am capable of achieving them.
