Hi! My Name is Ava Ferrie. I grew up in Branford, a small town on the shoreline of Connecticut. I started playing town soccer at age five after an unsuccessful attempt at dance, lol. My parents encouraged me at a young age to join a fun sport. I chose to learn how to play soccer and here we are.
As a junior in high school I've tried to reflect back on all the years that I've been fortunate enough to play soccer. Wether it be youth, club, or high school I have always aspired to be a versatile player, putting the needs of the team first. Ive had the privilege to be a teammate alongside some of the greatest athletes my age and the coaches that helped move my career along have instilled some of the greatest qualities in me. Ive learned to accept my weaknesses that challenges me to work even harder to improve upon them. By doing so I choose to be an example for others on and off the field. They have taught me to be willing, have a positive attitude, display good work ethic, be helpful and humble towards others.
I've grown tremendously as a person and athlete while in high school. Being able to play the sport I love, travel and make new friends has allowed me to become a well rounded person on and off the field. I have been exposed to all types of athletes and programs outside of the country as well as here in the states. Having been exposed to different types of coaching styles I can honestly say its made me a more dedicated person. Not only do I want to constantly improve my performances but I want to be the teammate who can motivate others to improve as well.
As a student and an athlete, I've learned that working together can only make a team successful. Being exposed to different coaches, players, teams, peers and other parents at a young age have shown me that differences do matter. I don't look at differences as a negative, being different showcases you. Not one person is the same and each of us brings to the table something the next doesn't. It's important to have value and appreciate each person who comes in and out of our lives.
I value the relationships that I have made and off the field. As I near the end of my junior year I look back and truly appreciate all who helped shape me. So many who have helped me to get to where I am today taught me to play, hard but fair.
What makes me different from other recruits is I'm aware that you don't have to be the best student in the class or the best soccer player on the field to succeed, but you do need a positive attitude, be willing to work hard, and show true happiness for others all while staying humble.
