My name is Rian Goertz and I am a 2024 graduate from Weston High School in Connecticut. I play outside back, midfield, and outside forward. Soccer has been a major aspect of my life since I was young. My love for the game has grown through the years as I developed as a player and a person. I take pride in maintaining a high level of fitness to maximize my contribution to my team and compete at national levels. I also have a high soccer IQ which allows me to anticipate plays and create opportunities on the field, which are strengthened by my technical skills. In my fall 2022 Weston High School season, I made the All-Conference and All-State team as well as received the "Most Fit" recognition. This is my third year as Captain of my Connecticut Football Club U17 ECNLR team and I will be Captain of the Weston High School Varsity soccer and track teams my senior year.
I’m a curious student and prioritize my academics. I currently have a cumulative 4.0 GPA and have successfully balanced honors and AP classes with extracurriculars including playing violin in the Pit Orchestra for Company (Weston High School’s Theatre Program), serving on Tri-M Music Honor Society, volunteering with student-led social justice groups (Pink Aid/Save the Children) and competing on my high school track team. Last year, our Varsity team won the Southwest Conference Championship and I qualified for the State Open, where I placed 10th in the state in the 800m race. This spring, my 4x400m relay placed first place in the CT Class-M Conference. Soccer is my full-time commitment and I give it my all, which is what I love.
I aspire to attend a smaller, liberal arts college that helps me reach my full potential academically and athletically. I hope to join a team with strong leadership and teammates hungry to win championships with a strong sense of camaraderie. As a Captain and peer, I regularly offer positive reinforcement to my teammates and value any guidance and feedback I’m given in order to develop and improve. I’m excited to see what the future holds and bring my passion to a great team!
