Grace Baker '24 Recruiting Profile

Hello! I'm eighteen years old, and my name is Grace Baker. It's my first year playing soccer and I attend Freedom High School. I didn't really venture out in the start of high school, and I didn't participate in groups or athletics. I didn't start going out and joining clubs until my sophomore year. My academic position prevented me from participating in athletics, which was something I had my sights set on. When it came time for me to choose a junior year sport, flag football was my first choice even though I had considered pursuing soccer. I never got into it since I believed it to be an art form, meaning I couldn't keep up with the high level of talent required for the activity. I got into it my senior year after my close friends were upset their goalie left, and my now amazing coach saw me punt a ball and then told me to come to tryouts. I was immediately selected for the varsity team and assigned as goaltender. To get where I am now, of course, it took a lot of training and one-on-one time with my coach, but I'm told every day that I'm playing as though this isn't my first experience as a goalie. Having said that, I still have a long way to go, but I am a strong candidate since I have put a lot of effort into getting here and I will do the same with my new team. I'll make an effort to improve my form, technique, and work till I can sense my improvement. I have a lot of enthusiasm to contribute to teams and get along with everyone. Sure, I can joke around and be humorous, but business takes priority when it's time to do business.
