My name is Grace Elsevier. I am in the class of 2022 at Wesleyan School. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and quickly fell in love with the game. I began playing REC and then moved up to school and club soccer when I was older. I volunteered to play goalie when I was 8 years old and I have never looked back. As a freshman, I made Varsity at Wesleyan and was a starter both my freshman and sophomore years. Playing Varsity as a freshman was a huge step up in the level of soccer and even though it was challenging at first I grew as an athlete and became a better player and teammate. My freshman year I ended the season with 8 shutouts and we won state. My sophomore school season was cut short due to the corona virus, but I am eager to play next school season and this club season.
I am a well rounded athlete and play many other sports, but soccer has always been my main sport. Playing other sports has helped me become a better soccer player and goalie. My moto in soccer is "you play the way you practice." So, I always work my hardest in practice because I know how I practice will greatly affect how I preform on game days. As well as school and club soccer I also do private goalie training which has greatly improved my skills. I have learned to be very confident and aggressive in goal. As a goalie I have to be a leader on the team and I am always positive and encouraging to my teammates.
Towards the end of my freshman school season I dove to save a ball and was kicked in the face. I broke my nose and had to go to the emergency room. This experience taught me that I am aggressive in goal and nothing will stop me from saving a ball. Even thought my nose was broken, I played the next few games while wearing a broken nose mask because I did not want this minor set back to stop me from playing. This shows my love and dedication for the game and that I never give up. After I broke my nose I heard from a college goalie that quoted, "you aren't a true goalie until you have broken your nose in goal."
On and off the field I work to my fullest to be the best player and student I can be. Academics are very important to me because my ultimate goal is to go to medical school. My goal for college is to attend a school where I will be challenged academically and on the field. I am looking for a great education, as well as the opportunity to expand my game of soccer and create long-lasting relationships on and off the field.
