Emery Martinez '22 Recruiting Profile

My goal is to be my family's first generation to go to college/university. I saw my mom worked so hard for my four siblings and me to get us what we needed not only physically but also emotionally, morally and last but not least spiritually. I work hard in everything I do and face challenges with courage because that's how my mom taught us to be, strong and courageous. I aspire to be all I can be in my soccer career through hard work and dedication, while also focusing on my academic area of study. I'm not saying it will be easy, I know it will be hard at times, but I'm up for the challenge, for I know it will bring a better future for not only me but for my lived one. I also want to make my mom more proud of me and for her to know I am grateful for all she has done and continues doing for me. Her support for the sport I love means the world to me, she is my #1 fan at games, practices, and even at times when she couldn't be there with me in person, she always managed to let me know through a phone call, message, social media post, that her heart was there with me.

What makes me different? I believe that I have a heart that keeps me grounded and reminds me not to forget where I came from and what all I have gone through to get where I'm at. I am a teenager and there has been times that I have lost my focus and have had to learn the hard way how hard it is to regroup and refocus to get back on track. To get where I aspire to be, I learned that a person must have empathy and be able to work with others, I have that in me. My mom always reminded me before my games to never forget that there is no "I" in the word "TEAM", that we win as a team and we lose as a team. 

I was raised to be a humble, caring, kind hearted person and I apply all that not only to my academic career but my athletic career as well.
