When I was 7 years old, I stepped onto the field for the first time. At that moment, my passion for soccer was created. Over time, my passion continued to grow as my relationships grew stronger. For example, celebrating with my team after a tough game or driving hours to tournaments and showcases made me keep coming back to the game. I was surrounded by people who would push me to be my absolute best, support me in times of struggle, and be willing to have fun. Also, I continued to play soccer because I had this feeling of wanting more of myself. There was always something that I wanted to improve like my touch, movement, or even my confidence. I believe this mindset has shaped me to be a hard-worker on and off the field. I will always put in the extra work to be a better version of myself than the day before.
As I have grown older, I have learned to understand that soccer is a team sport. The game is not controlled by a single person. It is a team effort. In order to be successful, everyone must do their part. I believe that I bring positivity to the teams I am apart of. After losing a game, I highlight the things that went well rather than focusing only on the negatives. However, I still acknowledge my mistakes, and I work to improve upon them. Also, I give words of encouragement to players that are upset after they made a mistake during the game. Lastly, I try to avoid complaining about the uncontrollables, such as weather and referees.
When I was younger, it was difficult for me to understand why I couldn’t go to my friend’s house because I had soccer practice. Now I understand why. I was committed to soccer. There have been times that I felt like quitting, but I always remember that I can not abandon something that I have started. It is essential that I follow my goals and continue to stay committed to the game of soccer and my team. Unfortunately, I have had to miss school events and important family functions to prioritize soccer. Soccer takes precedence over school events and family gatherings but never over academics.
School has always been extremely important to me. When I was young, I wanted to be the absolute best. In order to make younger me proud, I have devoted hours of my time, on top of my busy schedule, to be successful. Luckily, this hard work payed off as I received a 4.174 weighted GPA in the first semester of my sophomore year. Also, I have taken several challenging classes that push me to be the best of the best. Once I graduate high school, my passion and dedication to school will hopefully pay off as I transition into studying biochemistry in order to prepare for medical school.
