Caitlin Shiels '26 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Caitlin Shiels, being a military child has greatly influenced my soccer journey, as well as how resilient I've become. The frequent relocation and modifications have taught me the value of recovering from setbacks. One particular difficulty I had was when I suffered an injury to my dominant foot. This pushed me to use my left foot, which was initially frustrating, but I put in the work and ultimately helped me to become a better player and am now as confident with my left as I am with my right.

My father and my older sisters have been an immense source of inspiration for me in soccer. I grew up watching them play, and their enthusiasm for the game ignited my own love for it from a young age. They supported me throughout my journey and urged me to begin playing. Their guidance and belief in me have been instrumental in my development as a player.

Moving around frequently as a military child has also shaped my soccer experience. Each new location brought opportunities to grow and learn. I encountered many different soccer cultures, coaching styles, and playing environments. This diverse exposure has broadened my understanding of the game, I now have a more comprehensive understanding of the game and a versatile skill set.

Overall, the motivation from my family, the difficulties I've encountered, and the unique experiences of growing up as a military dependent have helped to mold me into the resilient and adaptable player I am today. I'm appreciative of the teachings I've picked up and eager to keep developing as a player both on and off the field.
