From the ages of 4-13, I studied the art of Tae-Kwon-Do and achieved a second-degree black belt. The values and skills I learned doing Martial Arts, I carry into all aspects of my life; focus, respect, balance, self-discipline, confidence, and composure. In addition, through soccer, I have learned how to be an active listener and leader who can bring groups together through communication. Not only that, but I learned that I tend to push myself past my limits, despite exhaustion. I pride myself on being able to balance my academics with soccer. Because of my discipline, I have been able to get straight As in school, allowing me to someday pursue my dream of majoring in sports science and minoring in business. However, as of now, I strive to end high school knowing that I challenged myself, took challenging classes, and pushed myself forward.
My defensive skills in soccer, along with having a strong technical foundation and flair to my game have allowed me to play on the 2008 boys' Academy team, play with the U19 girls', captain the 2007 girls' academy team, play on the '08 Baltimore Armour Academy, and make High School Varsity as a Freshman. Nevertheless, I've always had to persevere in the face of adversity. Playing with boys, for example, was difficult at first because you had to earn their respect before they passed the ball to you, and as you can guess, it was difficult to gain their respect if you never had the ball. So I learned that sometimes you have to take the initiative and go for the ball first in order to win it. Not only that but my height and weight have always posed a challenge when it came to playing with older girls and boys. I was either too light and got pushed over easily, or I was too short and the older girls would run past me. However, as a result of that, I have learned to be stronger, persevere, and be a leader both on and off the field. I would love to use my talents to compete at the highest level.
