Personal Statement

Leaving Laplata High School was my biggest achievement in my life, academically and athletically. Laplata High School never gave me a chance athletically and a challenge academically. I’m grateful that I made the JV team, but I felt as though the girls on varsity didn’t prove themselves. I knew I was a better goalie than the varsity goalie I proved myself during preseason tournament at Ole Mills High School the original goalie played first half and lost. I played the second game in goal and the team won. I’m starting my sophomore year at Thomas Stone High School as a player on the varsity soccer team.

Being told I can’t do something has influenced me. I love seeing the look on people’s face when I’ve proved them wrong. At the age of 5 on a Saturday afternoon is when I fell in love with soccer. I was watching Dora the Explorer and she was having so much fun kicking the soccer ball around with her friends and I instantly wanted to give it a try. My parents signed me up for soccer. After playing 3 seasons at Laplata Youth Soccer, I went to Waldorf travel league for 2 years to enhance my skills. After the season was over, I played up one level at Laplata Youth league. As a versatile player, I found out how valuable and significant I became to my team. If a teammate is struggling I can communicate with them and give them inspirational advice. As for the coach, if the team is lacking in a position I can step in and successfully succeed at the position. I always push myself to perfect all my soccer moves, I’m not a selfish player, and I love getting all my players involved in the play. My main goal in high school is to get a 3.5 GPA or higher and high SAT/ACT score. Also, being in the newspaper for all my accomplishments and being one of the top soccer players in the county. For college, my goal is to graduate and being able to start my career.

Due to talent, passion, and love for the sport I have always been put on the back burner because of racism, jealousy, and most importantly parent coaching. Starting with parent coaching who picks their daughter and her friends over talent. All parent coaches want their daughter to be the star on the team. At high school, coaches didn’t want new comers challenging the returning players. They thought that your grade level determined your talent level. I will try my hardest to be a great asset on your team
