I believe that my positive attitude and strong dedication to both academics and athletics will allow me to excel as a student athlete. I love to challenge myself, and as an extremely hard worker and reliable support system for my teammates, I know that I have what it takes to make an impact.
One of my biggest personal achievements throughout my soccer career was making an impact on a higher level team in my club. Five years ago my new coach didn’t yet believe in me enough to move me up to the next level. Due to the fact that he hadn’t seen me play much he had his doubts. I ended up making the team that year, yet I knew that I still needed to prove myself. After a season of hard work, determination, and even a position change, I finally felt as if I had earned my place. My coach gave me feedback at the end of the season that I exceeded his expectations in all aspects of the game and was a strong contributor to the team both in skill and attitude.
I have learned a lot about myself from four years of being on the same team and my experience making it. I learned that I play my best when I have a specific goal to achieve or have something to prove. I have also come to view team trust and cooperation as the most important elements for success. At tournaments my team and I push ourselves to compete to the best of our abilities and play our best soccer. As a veteran now on my team I have grown into a leader. I provide a great example for my teammates to follow and I try my hardest to lead through my actions as well as words. During training sessions I am very focused on using the time to learn and improve. My main goal for each game is to help the team succeed. As an outside back I use my speed to get involved offensively in the attack by distributing crosses/through balls and taking shots, while also effectively performing my duties as a defender.
Academically I also like to constantly challenge myself and I see myself studying science in the future. I am taking advantage of the rigorous courses offered at my high school and also use them to explore my interests. So far I have taken classes such as Honors Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP European History. Next year, I am looking forward to taking an online class in business, on top of my normal in-school workload, which will include AP Chemistry and Honors Anatomy. I plan to take AP Environmental Science my senior year, and I hope to someday have a career where I can help others from outside the office.
