Hello college coaches! My name is Marissa Wentland and I have been playing soccer for 11 years. I grew up trying every sport but as I got older my heart locked in on soccer. For me this has been a journey of improvement and success. Each year I worked to improve all aspects of my game to consistently move up levels including recently finding a spot on the Minnesota Thunder Academy National Premier League team. After completing this past season, my coach recognized the effectiveness of my tactical and technical skills: “Marissa has a very good understanding of the game, good positioning on the field, and she makes good decisions. She has a great athletic ability and work rate.”
This past year, I primarily played defensive center midfielder, but also played the other center mid positions. I use my speed, endurance, and agility to support my team all across the midfield. I am not afraid to ask questions and am always open to any feedback that is given to me. I want to become the best player I can be. In the 2021 club season I was part of a very successful team. We were first in our league and were able to go to NPL nationals in Colorado where we missed out playing in the semi-finals because of goal differential.
When not on the soccer field, I run track for my high school. I primarily run the 100 and 200 meter opens and both the 4 by 100 and 4 by 200 relays. I am constantly looking to improve my times every year through practice every day and meets every week, as well as use it for extra training for soccer. In the winter I do cross country/nordic skiing which helps keep me in shape for soccer. It is one of the best full body workouts and it is fun to do. Recently, I have realized the importance of adding weight training to my workouts too.
Academically, I push myself to do well in school. I currently have straight A's all through my sophomore year. I take at least 2 or 3 honors classes each year and love to challenge myself. This next year I will be part of my high school LINK crew which is all about helping the incoming underclassman feel like a part of the school. I think the job is perfect for my personality and I am ready to welcome all people into my life no matter the circumstances. Finally, I am the type of person who supports and elevates others around me. I love to help people and make them feel like they belong because I believe everyone does.
