Personal Statement

My name is Summer Parnell. I've been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. I'm not sure when it officially clicked that I wanted to play soccer in college. I guess I just always assumed I would! My primary position is Goalkeeper but I am capable of playing the field too.   After about 5th grade every team I was on I placed me in this position because I am fast, bold and good at making the calls on the field to guide my team.  I have been fulltime goalie for 7 years and have attended multiple camps and even taken private lessons.   Not only am I very capable as goalkeeper but, I am also a excellent leader.   I like to help keep my teammates hyped up in any way possible and to guide them during the game with my call outs.

  • 2020 Hastings Soccer Team - Indoor
  • Winter 2020 Indoor Soccer through Grand Island, Nebraska Parks and Recreation. Led by Cory Long, my league coach. This season we won our division with both teams and I was the sole goalie for both teams. Most of the same girls from Hastings High Soccer played on these teams. I prefer outdoor soccer, but indoor is one that allows me to play all year long. I want to stay as fine-tuned as I can for our competitive season.
  • 2019 Hastings Soccer - Indoor
  • Fall 2019 Indoor Soccer through Grand Island, Nebraska Parks and Recreation. Led by Cory Long, my league coach. I prefer outdoor soccer, but indoor is one that allows me to play all year long. I want to stay as fine-tuned as I can for our competitive season.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • University of Wisconsin - Green Bay
  • 11/20/21 to 11/21/21
  • This was very insightful camp. I really enjoyed the focus they had for goalies and separate training to kick, save and lead the time. This was a good review of past camps but also learned a few new techniques.
  • Camp/Event
  • ZPro Goalkeeper Camp
  • 7/22/20 to 7/24/20
  • I love this camp! I get to train and learn more valuable goalie techniques while playing against and with some of the areas finest. The mentors and Z are always great. Don't get me wrong. They work us hard! This year I left with multiple scuffs and scratches, a common occurance and a wrist sprain, It was all worth it!!
  • Camp/Event
  • ZPro Goalkeeper Camp
  • 6/18/19 to 6/20/19
  • This was the best camp yet, but they worked me hard! I learned a lot about the mental aspects of the game and various techniques on how to dive that were safer for me and more effective. For me it was nice to finally attend a soccer camp the focused specifically on my position.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hastings Soccer Club Day Camp
  • 7/29/17 to 7/29/17
  • Training skills: Dribbling, passing shooting. 1-day Day Camp for all league players
  • Camp/Event
  • Hastings College Youth Soccer Camp
  • 7/10/17 to 7/13/17
  • This was a soccer camp to fine-tune fundamentals. Head Women's Soccer Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at the time was Chris Clements lead the camp. It was held for partial days for a week at Hastings College
  • Camp/Event
  • Challenger Soccer Camp
  • 7/20/12 to 7/25/12
