Personal Statement

My high school career is not much when you compare it to others. I come from a tiny D4 school called Lin-Wood in Lincoln, NH. My freshman and sophomore year our team struggled. We lost almost every game and our team had no motivation. I didn't like the way we saw ourselves, and I knew we were better then how we played. I was a silent leader behind the older girls. I was never intimidated by them, but it wasn't my place to be the biggest voice. Going into my junior year I was elected captain. This was my chance to turn this team into what I knew we were capable of, and that is exactly what I did. Our new coach, Chris McClure, had also started that same year, and together we worked diligently at relighting the spark in my teammates. At the end of that season we sat in 16th being the last team to qualify for playoffs. We got our butt kicked away at Sunape, but that didn't matter. We hadn't qualified for playoffs in a very long team, and that's when I knew we were going somewhere my senior year. I was re-elected captain and we had an unbelievable season. We had a winning record of 11-5, we ranked 6th in the state, we hosted a home playoff game, and we had multiple freshman scoring their first varsity goals. We won 5-0 at our home play off game, but sadly lost away at Concord Christian in the quarterfinals. But again it didn't matter. Our team had worked together. Inspiring each other, encouraging each other, and pushing one another. It was sad leaving the team, but I was proud of what we had done. And I couldn't complain because they had given me the best senior year ever. I scored 21 seasonal goals, 4 playoff goals, made 1st granite all-state team, and I got to win my last home game. It was a privilege playing with these girls, and it taught me what perseverance, hard work, and determination can do.  This is why I believe I am a good candidate for your team. I've been through the low times, and I've learned to work through them and come out on top. I will be an encouraging and hardworking teammate.
