My name is Hannah Verville. I am currently a Junior at Merrimack Valley High School in Penacook, New Hampshire. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. At that same time, I started swimming competitively and playing baseball with our small-town rec league. I gave basketball a shot during my freshman year and made the freshman and JV teams. I enjoy trying different sports, but soccer is my passion. I am the type of person that gives 110% and tries to be the best I can be whether it is on the field, in school, at work or at home with family. If I make a mistake, I learn from it and work hard to be better. Responsibility and accountability are important to me.
In addition to playing for my 2006 CAFC club team, I have played varsity soccer for Merrimack Valley High School since my freshman year. I worked hard to earn a spot on the Varsity team and had the second most playing time for a freshman goalkeeper on varsity in my school’s history. In February of 2021, I tore my ACL and meniscus while playing indoor soccer. It was a long road to recovery, could not play my sophomore year, was cleared to play in the spring of 2022, and was the starting keeper for my high school team during my junior year. I played several games despite being diagnosed with a cyclops lesion mid-season. At the end of the season, I had the lesion removed and my knee feels better than before I tore my ACL. I was not idle while recovering from ACL surgery. I managed to keep a 4.0 GPA, and spent many days on the sidelines doing my exercises while my teammates practiced, assisted with keeper training, attended all games, studied game videos, and was able to provide play input to my coaches and teammates. I could not play but I was there to support my team in whatever way I was able. I feel my injury was not a setback, instead, it has made me a stronger, smarter, and more compassionate player, teammate, student, and person.
I am physically stronger than before my injury and, in addition to club and high school team practices, I attend keeper training, as well as work with a personal trainer to become even stronger. I also play on the Unified basketball team, am secretary of my school’s Future Business Leaders of America Club, and am a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society. I originally had my sights on a dental career, however, after my injury and recovery, I am interested in the physical therapy field.
Given a chance, I feel that my dedication, hard work ethic, knowledge, and love for the game will make a positive impact on any team.
