Some people think being a good player is all about the skill you have. While that is a big factor, I believe it to be more then that. Its all about your presence on the field, and especially as a goalie you have the most important presence on that field. I've seen it first hand with my high school team. We'll be leading a game and coach will take me out to get our JV goalie some varsity time. The whole way the game is played is changed by this one substitute. This resulted in us still winning but some simple mistakes were made on the field and in net that I feel would not have happened if I had still been out there. You see every inch of the field when you're in net, its a goalies job to direct the players on the best available plays and alert them when pressure is coming on. I also feel encouraging your teammates is a huge factor, you need to hype up your girls and get the energy flowing. My high school team had a game earlier in the season and we were down 0-1. Some of my favorite lines to say when I feel we need the energy is, "PLAY LIKE YOU MEAN IT GIRLS." and "STEP IT UP, KEEP YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME." It's actions like these that resulted in that match being a 3-1 win, and me earning team captain as a junior after the game.
