Hello Coach! Thanks for your interest in me as a student-athlete.
Playing soccer is one of the few things in my life that makes me feel outstanding and special. The feeling that rushes through me when I am able to rip the ball away from my opponent is incredible. On the other hand, I get a sinking feeling thinking that one day the constant pace I keep and my busy schedule between practices, games and tournaments will be nothing but a memory. This is why committing to a college where the soccer team has players that are as serious & committed as I am is a priority.
Playing since I am 4 years old I have been tested in many different positions on the pitch, but after a few years I was able to realize defense is my strength. I play center defense and sometimes holding midfielder. Last year my club coach told me he likes me in that position because of my vision and ability to see the entire field and my leadership skills.
I now play for STA Morris United 99G NPL (as of this writing, ranked 14th in the state). Considering my ability to see the whole field, I am usually able to predict a play before it happens giving me the chance to help direct my teammates where to move to or where the best place to play a ball to is. I’m not shy on the pitch, you’ll always hear me.
Just because I believe myself to be in a leadership role does not mean I do not appreciate being presented with ways to improve my play. I love receiving new advice and criticism that will make me an all-around better player. I always strive to improve, especially when given the opportunity to critique myself in any way.
Along with soccer, playing the piano is my passion. I have been playing for eleven years and perform in two recitals a year, one being a scholarship recital. I have no specific genre that I prefer playing, it varies from modern teen music such as Taylor Swift to the Beatles and to classical. In fact I’m already preparing to play a long Mozart piece in the Spring. I am committed to piano because it is a love of mine that I know I can do for the rest of my life.
I attend Newton High School in Newton, NJ. I am in AP Biology, AP US History II, Spanish III and Honors Pre-Calculus. I am involved with my school's Peer Leadership, Interact Club, and Spanish Honors Society. I am leaning towards a Major in Education with a very strong preference towards a Special Education or Speech Pathology major at the college I attend.
I spent this past summer volunteering over 50 hours at the Newton Medical Hospital. It was such an amazing opportunity for me to be able to see and feel the atmosphere in the environment in which I may someday pursue. In 2017 I will be looking to spend time volunteering in a school that accommodates children with special needs since if I went down the Education path I think I would like to find a specialty.
If you like what you read, what you saw in my video or at a showcase, I can't be more excited to speak with college coaches about soccer and my academic goals. Hopefully you find that I would be a valued addition to your roster and university.
