My name is Victoria Barella and I am a junior at Calvary Christian High school in Old Bridge, New Jersey. My primary position is center midfield, while also having skills in every position. I started playing center midfield my freshman year for my high school team because of my knowledge of the game, and view of the field. On my high school team I am known as the “play-maker”, then my junior year I became the leading goal scorer for Calvary. In games, I will be put as a striker to try and get ahead early, and then get pushed back to center mid to utilize my playmaking skills, as well as being a “wall” in the center. Before and during high school, I played as a striker, as well as an outside midfielder for my club team in Old Bridge. I also have been put as a defender for certain games if needed. My speed contributes to my way of playing. I am a very adjustable and coachable player who does what is needed when asked, of course with maximum effort. Besides being a leader on the field, I am also viewed as a leader off the field. I always am looking to encourage others. I am always the one in the room looking in the positive direction even in difficult times. My attitude and love for others contributes to my way of playing the game of soccer. When i was 4 years old, I began my journey with this sport. My mom was my coach and she always taught me to do my best, motivate others, and always come out with a smile on my face. As I got older I realized how important that advice was. Throughout the years, I have definitely learned how to become a better player when the ball is at my feet, and when it is not. During those times, I learned to position myself where I should be, and learned to be a team player, cheering on my teammates in a positive way, whether they made the game winning goal, or a mistake. Mindset is a big part of sports, and I feel that the road to becoming the person I am today has helped me realize that. The passion and love I have for this sport is like no other, and i would be extremely grateful to have the opportunity to continue going down this road.
