Hello! My name is Colleen Coffey, and I am in the class of 2023 at Sleepy Hollow High School in Sleepy Hollow, NY. I first began playing soccer at approximately age 5, and it has always been my first love! I played Forward and Attacking Mid for Sleepy Hollow's JV team for the last three years. Over my three years with the team, I have seen my skills improve dramatically, as I have gone from 0 goals and five assists in my first season (Grade 9) to 5 goals and 11 assists throughout this season (Grade 11).
In addition to playing with my team at Sleepy Hollow, I also play club soccer year-round, something I've done consistently since 6th grade. Over the years, I have played club for Sleepy Hollow Football Club (grades 6-9), Westchester United Football Club (grade 10), and New York Soccer Club (my current team, where I play for the 05/06 Girls Pre-Academy team). Additionally, I have also spent significant time each summer attending various soccer camps and clinics, including those run by NYCFC, Manchester City F.C., Pace University, and Fox Soccer Academy, to improve my soccer skills and continue to develop my game.
In speaking to my coaches, both from Sleepy Hollow and my club teams, I have repeatedly been told that on the technical side, my passing skills and soccer knowledge are significant strengths and that as a player, I am unselfish (overly so by some accounts), hardworking, respectful, team-minded, and, above all, dedicated, both to the sport and to my improvement within it--all qualities I am very proud of.
Academically, though I have some learning differences which create challenges for me, I am incredibly proud of the fact that I have been able to achieve a 3.75/4.0 GPA while taking multiple honors level, Dual Enrollment, and AP courses beginning in Grade 10 and also balancing extracurriculars including National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Pep Band (trumpet--since Grade 9), Wind Ensemble (trumpet--since Grade 9), Girls with Impact Women's Leadership Institute, Girl Scouts (I have been with my current troop since Grade 6 and am currently in the process of completing my Gold Award project), and Girls Who Code.
I (obviously) hope to continue playing soccer beyond my senior year of high school and am willing to take all the necessary steps to achieve that. Ultimately, however, my primary goal is to pursue my degree at a school that is the right fit for me as a person and academically, as above and beyond all else, my priority is to go on to a career in either Computer Science or Software Engineering. I am unwilling to sacrifice that goal for any reason.
