Writing this personal statement is difficult for me, since I don’t like talking about myself. So to help me get started, I asked a couple of my friends to choose one word to describe my personality and/or character. This is what they came back with: fearless, strong, inspiring, admirable, and athletic. I couldn’t stop smiling when I read their responses. While I’m humbled by their words, I am grateful that they see me for who I’m aspiring to be daily.
Throughout middle school, I was nominated each year to attend my local Catholic high school‘s leadership camp. As well as, asked to be on my middle school‘s leadership team. During my eighth grade year, I was awarded membership into the National Junior Honor Society. My leadership carried over to club soccer when I was asked, by my coach, to be captain based on my work ethic and positive attitude. I was also awarded the NCFC Hamilton Sportsmanship Award. This award is given to one player on each NCFC team who shows the qualities of a positive attitude, respect, team work, and passion for the game.
During my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I have continued to build upon my strong work ethic and leadership capabilities. I was asked to be a Welcome Guide and Ambassador for incoming students. As an athlete, I stayed after school soccer practice to help my teammates improve their understanding and performance of the game. My efforts on the team awarded me MVP and All Conference Athlete, along with my Varsity letter. Thus far I have been nominated for Athlete of the Week in the News & Observer Raleigh newspaper.
When I’m off the soccer field or not working out, I enjoy reading and community service. Currently my favorite genres are fantasy and adventure. Also, I have achieved 25+ hours of community service. Additional hobbies include: riding four-wheelers in the backyard and playing the guitar, poorly. I am certified as a NCYSA referee and work as many games as my schedule allows. I, most importantly, enjoy having fun and making others feel good about themselves!
