Some people are talented in art or music and others are gifted at another sport. My drive has always been in the competitive sport of soccer. For long as I can remember soccer has been one of my greatest passions. Since the age of six years old when I started playing recreational soccer, I think that’s really when I discovered my talent as a soccer player. I was inspired by the game and learned how to work as a team and how to communicate well with others to accomplish the goals on the field. I’ve come so far and to this day I continue to build on enhancing my people skills and my ability to work well with others in good times or bad, soccer has brought out a sense of drive that has also helped me excel in my school environment.
Every game that I play is a new challenge that I have to face and accomplish. I use the competitive drive I’ve gained on the field in the classroom. I truly understand that the more I practice, the better I will become and all the hard work pays off on the field even If that means we don’t always win. I implement the “practice makes perfect” philosophy to my school assignments and exams as well. In order for me to get better at math or for that matter any other subject, I have to do my homework and study routinely. I know that when I study and practice I’m confident in myself that I’ll always perform better. Soccer has been my motivation to be a better student because in order to be able to play in the school’s varsity team you have to be able to maintain a certain GPA, which I have maintained and over passed. I’ve truly become a better student in the classroom because of soccer and maintain the continued passion and drive.
Playing a sport that has a numerous amount of varying factors to determine a victory has taught me resiliency. Sometimes I might not always win a game or score a goal but the good leadership and ethics that I have learned from being a soccer player have taught me never to be discouraged. Regardless of whether we win or have a great play, I’ve learned to take some risks in this sport and that is what life is all about, taking risks and trying to reach for you goals. I’m truly looking forward to the future and being a successful student at the university level while also being an amazing college soccer player and teammate in the coming year and fulfilling my next life goal.
