I’m Avrey Kromer, 18 years old and I am currently a senior at West Shamokin High School. Positionally I generally play in the 7, 11, 9, or 10, but I am versatile. I’ve been playing soccer every season since I was six years old.
I was named co-captain of the West Shamokin junior high coed team. my 8th-grade year. In my freshman year of high school I tried out for and made the boys varsity team, that season the team won the district championship with a 15-1 overall season. At West Shamokin HS I was the first female soccer player to be on a district VI championship team. That same year I tried out for and made the Pittsburgh Hotspurs 2003 white girls’ team. During that season we won the Nike Challenge Cup and came in third in the Memorial Day Classic tournament.
The summer before my sophomore year I tried out for the PA West ODP. I was offered a spot on the Olympic development team and was invited to their spring Germany trip, I respectfully declined due to timing conflicts.
My sophomore year I was named a starter on the boys’ varsity team, that season we won our conference, but unfortunately lost the district championship by one in overtime. I continued my soccer journey with Hotspurs SC, but I´m currently playing for Arsenal FC. Overall as a player, I’m determined, versatile, hardworking, coachable, and most importantly a team player.
I take my academic career seriously, since seventh grade I have earned a 3.75 or higher GPA and always either been on Honor Roll or Distinguished Honor Roll. I apply myself to higher-level classes such as AP Literature, AP English and composition, and AP Biology. My current unweighted GPA stands at 3.8 and my current weighted GPA is 4.5. For my class rank, I´m 11 out of 57 and a member of my school's National Honors Society too.
I feel being involved in school and community is important as well. Currently, I am the secretary of West Shamokin´s Leo club where I have helped with special Olympic bowling, our annual toy drive, candy making with our local LIONS club, and various other volunteer opportunities. I am also active in my church youth group. Through my Youth Group, I have volunteered my time working in the local St. Vincent De Paul store, annually cleaning the Guardian Angel church, working various booths at the St. Lawrence’s fall festival, spending time with the elderly in community nursing homes, helping serve and prepare food for annual fish fries in the spring, and various other actives. My school´s NHS provides me with volunteer opportunities I´m involved with as well, such as our annual blanket drive and charity donations. I volunteer coach through my current club soccer team´s Lil Tykes program, as well.
