Tara Costello '13 Recruiting Profile

I am Tara Costello, a 5'5", 125 lb soccer player that has dreamed of pursuing a position in college soccer for as long as I can remember. I say pursuing a position because although I normally play in the defensive line, I am comfortable throughout the field and possess experience in every position on the pitch. I never walk on the field without my heart on my sleeve. I always was told to never leave the pitch with a single regret. I love soccer because its one of the only sports where it truly is all about the team and being capable of performing as a unit, becoming one in the game. I am a devoted, hardworking player whether I'm sliding over 50 yards away from the play or making the game winning tackle - I am putting everything I have into it. I'm always open to learning more and changing techniques, I feel as if that is what has truly made me grow as a player. If you aren't open to others, how can you possibly grow? One of my strengths is knowledge of the game. Another quality I feel is particularly strong is my field awareness. I don't let myself take my eyes nor mind off the pitch during a match. Together, I use these qualities with the various skills I have acquired over the years to be a dominant figure on every pitch. I go into every game with the mindset that it is the finals of the World Cup, to me every game is that important. I have played on a number of travel teams since I was 6 years old, including a summer select team that played in Germany, Austria and Italy. In 2010, I was invited to attend a training camp of the U17 Irish National Team in Ireland. I have been a high school varsity starter since freshman year, even after changing high schools in 2011 (sophomore year) when I played the fall soccer season in New Jersey and then the spring soccer season in South Carolina, finishing 3rd in the state, as well as continuing to captain my NJ club team after the move. I am an Member of the South Carolina ODP 1995 team that played this year in sub-regionals in Georgia and Virgina friendlies under Coach Sandy Burris. I am confident I would be an invaluable asset to your team.
