~Hello! My name is Katie Alexander and I am a 5’3” defender/midfielder from Dallas, Texas. I am currently a junior in high school and will graduate in 2017. I have played soccer for 12 years now and have been in competitive soccer for 7 years.
The main thing that sets me apart from other people my age is that I am a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed with this disease when I was three years old, and it has become a part of my daily life. Although some people look at diabetes as a handicap, I feel that it has helped to shape me into the person I am today. I am much more organized, responsible, hard-working, and goal-orientated. Adults always agree that I am more mature than other teenagers my age. I make sure to check my blood sugar frequently, and, thus, have never had any incident where I have had to go to the emergency room due to my condition. I take very good care of myself because I do not want diabetes to slow me down!
Many people tell me that I am short for a soccer player. However, I believe that my strengths offset this physical weakness. I am very aggressive and can change speeds. I am willing to do anything I can to win the ball from the opponent. I am always trying to gain more tactical knowledge so I can use this information in games. I also attempt to work on my technical skills so I can be a well-rounded player. All the people that have met me agree that the biggest strength I possess is my hard-work and dedication for the game. I am willing to outwork ALL other players so that I can constantly improve my game.
I currently play with TX Spirit 98’ in the Lake Highlands Girls Classic League/USYSA Premier League. The team is coached by Iseed "Sid" Khoury. I chose to play up an age bracket because I wanted to be challenged and to have the ability to go against newer opponents. Furthermore, I have been in ODP for 5 years and was able to go to region 3 camp this past summer.
Academics are very important to me, and I strive to do well in the classroom. I attend Cedar Hill Collegiate High School (CHCHS), where I am already taking college courses. (CHCHS has partnered with Cedar Valley Community College, so I take enough college courses to be able to graduate with an Associate’s Degree from Cedar Valley two weeks before my high-school graduation). I have maintained a 4.0 average and rank of #1 in my class since freshman year. I also took the SAT in the fall of my sophomore year, and I scored a 1760 combined.
Besides soccer, I try to be as well-rounded as possible. I have participated in varsity cross country, soccer, and track for my high school since freshman year. I love to do community service and have clocked more than 1100 hours because I love to help my city out.
I believe I could be a great addition to any school because I am very dedicated and work very hard. I am good at following instructions and am willing to take on any challenge that comes my way!~
