Lilianna Cherry '23 Recruiting Profile

Hi! My name is Lilianna "Lily" Cherry and I will be a senior this year at Kingwood HS. I started playing soccer at 4 years of age and I still love the sport and am excited to move forward in the pursuit of playing soccer at the collegiate level. Playing soccer at the collegiate level has been a goal for me since I was a very young child and being on the precipice of this accomplishment feels amazing.  I am passionate about soccer and academic achievement and I set goals for myself in both areas. My goal moving forward at the collegiate level is to major in either nursing or pre-med with the goal of becoming either an ER trauma nurse or a neurosurgeon.  With both goals in mind, I strive each day to be the best player, teammate, and scholar I can be and I believe this drive is seen on the field and in the classroom.  

I have learned to be a versatile player and am comfortable playing multiple positions on both offense and defense. My best asset is my  ability to think quickly  and read plays on the field, which allows me to shut down offensive attempts in the backfield and strike as a midfielder when the time  is right ( I have videos of me playing both positions in my profile). My favorite position to play is Center Back. I enjoy running down offensive strikes and shutting down scoring attempts by opposing teams. I also enjoy being a part of corner kicks and very often find myself connecting with the ball in those situations with either a header or volley at the goal. I am a physical player on the field and can shut down plays by either taking the ball away or through slide tackles, which I've worked to make very clean the past 2 years. 

I believe in cultivating a  positive team environment  that embraces diversity and individuality, which allows the team to achieve our goals to our fullest potential.  I was selected to 2nd Team all District this year, Academic All District and am heading up our Kingwood Soccer Leadership Council for the 2022-2023 school year with 9 other teammates from all 3 of our women's soccer teams. For the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Dash season, I will be playing with the GA2 North Team out of The Woodlands, Texas and will be coached by Jamie Bell.
