My name is Briley Bowen and I enjoy living life to the fullest. I am known for bringing a positive and energetic voice to those around me on and off the field. I enjoy playing soccer because of the family aspect as well as being able to have fun while still being competitive. My team means so much to me and I truly look forward to being with them day in and day out. The game of soccer brings a challenge to me both physically and mentally. Learning to play this game has helped me become both a better student, a better leader, and a better person. It has caused me to watch my words, teaches me to depend on others, and it pushes me day in and day out to look for ways to improve.
I love being a student athlete in Melissa TX. I also enjoy participating in service projects with my Church youth group, National Honor Society, and club soccer team. The joy I see when helping others is unlike any feeling I can describe. It helps me realize that there is more to life than just being an athlete. Helping others is what has made me to focus towards entering the nursing field.
I am interested in finding a school that has both a great nursing program, as well as a family focused and successful soccer team. I am most interested in Labor and Delivery and Women's services. I love the thought of being able to help people, love on babies, bring joy, listen when someone needs to talk, and being there when people are most vulnerable. I want to be part of a school and team that will allow me to be my spunky self, provides a great education, and gives me the opportunity to make lifelong friends.
Success is what motivates me. My hard work and perseverance will help me achieve my goals. I like to plan things out, be organized, and love the feeling of accomplishment when I look back at the challenges I have gone through. Life is like a soccer season. There are ups and downs, good times and bad times, and an opportunity to grow at every step of the way.
My High School Coach and I have talks after every game. We talk about my strengths and my opportunities and how I can improve myself, but also how I can help others around me. I love getting the feedback as it challenges me to think differently and gives me opportunities to improve my game. I was selected as Captain this year (Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years). One of the gifts that my team says I bring to every practice and game is my voice. I have learned to use my words to both motivate my teammates as well as help guide them through challenges. There is nothing much better than growing together, improving week in and week out, and becoming a better team player.
My High School career is really just getting started. I started every game as a Freshman and was asked to play in every position on the field though out the season by my coach. Gaining insight from these different perspectives helped me be prepared to reach the state tournament. Our goal this year is to return to the state tournament to bring home Melissa High School’s first soccer state championship. I plan on helping my team get there again by using encouraging words, structured feedback, and bringing energy to every practice and every game.
