My name is Emma Coleman and I'm in the 2021 graduating class. I am a left footed winger, extremely fast, and have a hard working, positive attitude on and off the field. I currently have a 4.0, and run Varsity track for my high school team at James Madison High School, in addition to full time soccer. I spend most of my time day to day either improving my game, focusing on my studies, or enjoying time with my family and friends.
I've been playing soccer for as long as I can remember, and it has been one of the most influential parts of my life. Almost my entire family plays the game, so it runs through my genes. My mom played club soccer in college at Clemson, my dad at the high school and recreational level, and my grandpa still plays weekly in an over 60 men's league! From an early age, my parents and I have attended professional soccer matches, as well as watched the English Premier League weekly on tv.
My coaches have always been helpful and encouraging towards my development, as they have been willing to put in the extra time and effort in order for me to succeed at the highest level. Countless hours of watching film, and many extra late night practices to work on specific areas of my game have been crucial in my succeeding at an elite level.
Throughout my childhood, many of my most memorable times are playing soccer with my friends and family- tournaments, team dinners and those sweet last minutes of championship games. The joy and motivation that soccer brings to my life is why I am determined to play at a high college level that fits my style of play, personality, academics and one that I am excited to compete in. I believe that I have the potential to make this aspiration possible for many reasons such as; I am a strong, outgoing girl with leadership skills and athletic ability. I am constantly reaching for a higher level in everything I do, and am never one to give up. If I set my mind on something, I won't stop until I know I have completed it to the best of my ability.
On the field, I am a proactive player who always has a plan before they get the ball. I have a high soccer IQ, and am able to recognize certain situations around me and how to react the best way. During the game, I always give 100% effort and focus, no matter the score. If we are down, I try to be a positive influence on the field to remind my teammates to keep fighting until the end. My main position is left wing, and I am able to utilize the space down the flank with my tremendous speed and 1v1 attacking skills. I can put both air and ground crosses into the box, and have a strong corner kick that puts the ball in dangerous situations. In addition to the wings, I have also played as a left back and also a striker. My coaches have always said that I am a very versatile player, and can adapt to what the team needs.
I run Varsity track for James Madison High School and compete in the 55m and 4x200 events. This year, I made it to Districts and Regionals, where I achieved a PR of 7.64 in the 55m event. I look forward to continuing my high school track career and improving my times in my events. Track helped me stay in great shape over the winter and has already had a positive effect on my spring soccer season!
Based on all the information above, I believe I would be a great asset to a team given my drive, work ethic, technical ability, coachability, and my passion for the game.
