My mother always says how I have this need to be a valedictorian of everything. To some extent this is probably true, but it is not solely to be better than everyone else. The main reason actually is to be better than myself. If I am not doing something correctly, I will learn from the situation and work hard on doing it right. Because that is what I do. I was tested a few years ago a couple times. Once was when I hurt my back and found out the week before my season with my new club team, that I would be sidelined for 12 weeks. I still attended all the practices and games so I could learn and be with my new teammates. In the off season I did strength training at Sports Advantedge to get my body strong so I could be ready for the next season and play with my new team. Another time was freshman year where I made the lowest level team when I had expectations to compete for varsity. The day I found out I was devastated as most of my teammates had made varsity on their HS teams. I tried to use the situation as motivation instead of letting it control me. That weekend I met with my Rush coach to discuss the situation, I signed up for strength training, and, since my dad coached soccer, we went to the field and practiced. I had a whatever it takes attitude and after one practice I was asked to move up to the JV team. Then mid-year I was able to work myself up to play varsity after my JV Games as a striker which I have never played before. Soccer is my passion and I just love to play. My dad and I are both huge Rocky fans and our favorite quote by Rocky is -"It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
