My name is Kathryn Hutter. I have been swimming since the age of 4 and have been on the YMCA Westside Silver Fins team since 2010. At an early age my parents acknowledged my love for the water and signed me up for a summer rec team after I quickly completed my swim tests. A year later I moved to the Silver Fins and found my forever home. My church family has helped me grow and has guided my through the rough patches of my life. One of our head coaches, Ryan Kent, was also one of my biggest influencers as I grew, not only coaching me through my early swimming career, but also growing me as a person and coaching me through life. Sadly, in 2018, he suddenly passed which has provided me with motivation to push myself harder and be the best person I can be because tomorrow isn't promised. Freshman year, I was introduced to another team in which I would also love from the start. Ironwood's swim team was smaller than some of the surrounding schools but we prevailed and it gave us a chance to know everyone a bit better. Districts was a great opportunity to go out and have fun. I finished 2nd in the 200 Individual Medley and in both my 200 Free and Medley Relays I placed 3rd. I competed in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Yard Medley Relay at state. I also received the Freshman Swimmer of the Year award . Sophomore year, despite all the restrictions and lack of invitationals, I qualified and competed in the 100 Back, 200 Individual Medley, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay, ranking in the top 20 in each event and top 10 in the 200 IM. My second year being a part of the high school team I was awarded the Swimmer of the Year award. Junior year I became one of the leaders of our team and made our team much more like a family than it had been, and I had the most fun I have yet. Alongside swimming, my schooling is of great importance to me. I would like to graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA or as close to it as I can get. I am also working to get a full IB diploma. After high school, I want to attend a college and swim through my undergrad and after my first 4 years attend med school to become a physical therapist.
