I have always wanted to be student athlete in college. I grew up hearing stories from my parents who were both college swimmers. However, I didn't start swimming competitively until my eighth grade year as I had only swam in summer rec leagues while I was playing tennis. I changed school districts to start high school because the district I was in did not have an aquatics program. I have played varsity water polo and swimming since my freshman year. I am lucky enough to have the same club and high school coach. He has inspired and encouraged me to work hard and keep swimming as long as I am enjoying it.
I would like to study psychology and become an adolescent psychologist. I am currently a student mentor for my high school. Our job is to mentor to junior high students who plan on attending our high school. I am also part of the Link Crew because I know from experience how hard it is to start at new school not knowing anyone. I wanted to be able to help other students feel welcome and have a sense of belonging. This also allows me to connect with more people and the school. The school closure this year has taught me how valuable connections are and I have tried very hard to keep them and even try to make more. That is one reason I want to attend college as a student athlete. I want to be connected in a deeper way to the school I attend. Being part of a team is like having another family and I want to have that experience as part of my education path.
It's hard to say what my favorite event is but I enjoy the 100 & 200 Back, 100 & 200 Breast, 200 IM and 500 Free. One of my goals is to start swimming the 400 IM. Another goal of mine is to break 5 minutes in the 500 Free. I am currently at 5:31.13 but feel this will be attainable if I keep working hard and stay focused. I feel like I have a lot of swimming ahead of me because I started late compared to most people I know. I have been making steady improvements.
As far as academics, I am a strong student with a 3.8 GPA and taking AP classes. I am thankful I have been able to keep up my grades during distance learning. I actually think distance learning may have given me a bit of preparation for what college may be like.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me. I look forward to hearing from you.
