Hello, my name is Reyn Jensen. I am 17 years old and going into my senior year at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora, California. I have loved being in a pool for as long as I can remember. I started swimming competitively after spending two summers swimming on a recreation team for 3 months. I realized that I loved the competition and challenges that swimming brings. I joined a club swim team, Covina Aquatics Association (aka La Mirada Armada), when I was 10 and have loved every minute of it.
The daily routine of swimming brings me peace and overall happiness. I have a true passion for swimming and I am always trying to do my very best. I am determined, committed and hard working, in and out of the pool.
CAA has taught me many things. It’s taught me how to be a teammate, to not give up even when I don’t think I can do something, and to have a good mentality going into everything, not just my races and practices. Swimming has not only taught me many things, but it has also helped me grow as a person. The perseverance and determination I have in the pool is applied to my rigorous and academic education.
During my time at CAA, pre-pandemic, I taught 4-7 year olds how to swim. I was able to learn how to work with young children and share the mechanics of swimming to young swimmers. When the pandemic hit, my coach did everything in his power to keep us in the pool, even if it had to come down to working out in a backyard pool. This showed me perseverance and determination to never give up even during trying times.
CAA moved to La Mirada Armada in La Mirada and it was too much of a challenge for my family to drive me there everyday. Therefore, I switched club teas and have been swimming for San Dimas Aquatics for the last year. While I was sad to not stay with my coaches that trained, guided, and made me the swimmer that I am, I was ready for a change. The new coaches and new friends inspire me everyday to keep swimming, even at 5:30 am everyday.
I decided to try something new this year, water polo. I played on the varsity team this year in high school. I made a few goals and was the only one to make a goal in the first round of CIF. I learned that I can be aggressive and competitive, in a different way, new aspects of myself that I didn't know were possible While I loved water polo and will play again this year, my heart belongs to swimming.
Having attended an academically rigorous elementary and now high school, I feel that I would be prepared for the challenges that I would face in college.
I believe that I can be a great asset to your team.
