Personal Statement:
Why I swim:
I swim because I’ve been doing it for so long that it has become a part of me, and without it, I would be lost. Swimming is great because you get the chance to find someone who can push you to better yourself, and at the same time they can become your best friend. Swimming also has taught me to be independent and responsible for my actions. Even though swimming is mainly considered an individual sport, we always count on our teammates to encourage us to do our best. Some of my best swims have been when we come together for relays, it is when individuals come together to become a powerful team.
Why I would make a good teammate:
I would make a good teammate because I stay positive, and encourage my teammates when they feel like they can’t go anymore. Before an event and after, I always shake my fellow swimmer’s hand and say “Good job”. I love to race my teammates and push them, and myself so we become better athletes in the end. My coaches love my energy before a relay because I am great at encouraging the team, and getting all of us pumped up to swim fast. My positive attitude and excitement have been contagious during practice as well.
Additional Activities:
I am a cadet within the Civil Air Patrol, A small organization of the United States Air Force. I’ve had a interest in flying since I was 4 and I officially knew that I wanted to fly and be pilot when I 9. My fourth grade teacher wanted to be an astronaut when she was a kid and she made it sound very interesting and I knew that I wanted to be in the air. I don’t remember what jet it was but she showed us a video a flight demonstration with a military fighter jet and I knew that it was something that I wanted to do.
Recently, I have been taking glider lessons and working on my solo flight and to get my gliders license. I have been working with Winch launched and hope to soon be working with a tow launch.
Why College:
I’m looking for a college that can give me a good balance of academics and athletics. I hope to attend a college that has high Aviation and Astronomy courses, that can help me reach my ultimate goal of being a pilot. My athletic goal is to be an Olympian, so attending a college that can help me advance toward this goal is important. College also seems like a great place for opportunity and to help me achieve what I really want to do... succeed!
Something that keeps me motivated:
Something that keeps motivated is music. A song that keeps me motivated is “Whatever it takes” by Imagine Dragons. This song is great because the lyrics give you a positive message and drives you to believe that you can do anything.
What I love to do for fun:
Love going on adventures/travel and hanging out with family/ friends
