The first time I swam the mile, I stood behind the blocks, my 12-year old self crying in my goggles as the heat before me was finishing. I had never swam anything longer than a 200! I was so scared and nervous, and also kind of mad at my coach for signing me up for the mile! I dove in still crying, my goggles all fogged up, but started to tell myself I could do it, and when I finished, I realized that was what I wanted to swim again and again. I actually thanked my coach later that night for pushing me to swim that race. My name is Audrey Hemsworth, and swimming has been my passion since I was 5. Away from the pool deck, I love to spend time with my friends and family, as they have been my biggest supporters. I also enjoy baking and spending time with my pets. During the summers, I work with USA Swimming and the Make a Splash Foundation and volunteer to teach disadvantaged youth life-saving water skills. I also work at a local club, where I teach swim lessons to children ages 2 to 7. My grades clearly suffered during my fourth semester because of Covid and the challenges of remote learning, and my biggest focus is to get them back on track this year. I am looking forward to hopefully having a full high school season and a normal club season for the first time in my high school career!
