For me, swimming has always been an outlet. I can escape to the pool when things get stressful. Not only do I love that but I also love to compete. I’m not ready to just stop competing in swimming at the end high school, I want to carry that on into college. My goal is to compete as a collegiate athlete and get a degree. I would call myself a positive person who works hard and is dedicated. Since seventh grade I have traveled 2 hours (one way) once a week to get in 2 practices with my club team, while the rest of the week I either swam with an adult stroke clinic in the mornings, by myself, or, in the summer, with a local seasonal team. I wanted to swim year round and our small town only offered swimming in the summer/fall.
I lift with the high school football team in the summer, switched to an all boys weights class to continue to get stronger and surround myself with people who take working out seriously. I want to continue to surround myself with those people in college as well. Today, I am still the same kid who just wants to become faster and stronger, not only in the pool but in the classroom as well.
