Jumping in the pool ignites a fire deep in my core. Being in the pool is my escape from all of the pressures of being a high school student. Striving at practice to become the best I can be by working hard in every set my coach gives me, cheering my teammates on, and making sure I make the times allows my mind to block out everything else. When I am at practice that is all I am thinking about. Swimming for the last 7 years has taught me how to manage my time, prioritize things in my life, be part of a team, and understand what it means to sacrifice. As I finished my freshman year of high school I was faced with a tough decision. I had been playing lacrosse for the last 7 years and was now at a fork in the road. Do I continue to play LAX and interrupt my long course season in swimming or do I focus entirely on swimming? As much as leaving lacrosse was a tough decision it was the right decision for me. Through my commitment and dedication to swimming, I have learned what it means to work hard, focus, and try my best in all areas of my life. I am in honors and AP classes in school, have a 4.04 weighted GPA, a volunteer with various organizations all while swimming 6 days a week-sometimes twice a day. I strongly believe my ability to manage all of the aspects of my life stems from swimming. Because of this I can not imagine my life without it. This passion and commitment to swimming I want to carry on long after High School.
I would be a good addition to any swim team because of the traits previously listed. My commitment and dedication to the sport as well as my team makes me a positive addition. I not only strive for my best results but I support and cheer my teammates on with theirs. Being part of a relay is one of my favorite events to swim. (see the relay video I posted) My desire to learn and be coached to improve my stroke is noticeable. I am always asking questions, working on new techniques, watching videos suggested by my coach, and attacking every practice. Swimming is and will always be at the core of who I am.
