Although I have swam competitively since I was 6 years old, I have other reasons for wanting to continue swimming in college. The structure of daily practice has been a familiar part of my routine and it’s something that has helped keep me focused not only in the classroom but in every aspect of my life. Swimming has taught me discipline, fortitude, obedience, time management, and leadership skills. The sport of swimming is also enjoyable to me and I am looking forward to the team aspect of college swimming both for fun and as a way to manage the stress associated with challenging coursework. Academically, I plan to major in nursing, and upon graduation, I hope to be able to apply my degree as a missionary. Attending a college that will help me grow in my faith is an essential part of my college discernment process and I am grateful that there are several Catholic colleges with swim teams. Out of the pool, I enjoy spending time with my friends, playing the violin (another activity I have done since I was 6), my parish youth group, and skateboarding.
