I started swimming competitively when I was 9 years old. I have always loved the water and I actually taught myself to swim when I was three. I really wanted to jump off the diving board and my mom told me I had to know how to swim first! I have tried other sports - soccer, basketball and volleyball - but swimming is my passion. I love how swimming is a team sport as well as an individual sport because I love supporting my teammates and swimming with my friends. I'm also a competitive person and love the feeling of racing.
I currently train 12-14 hours a week, which includes time in the pool and drylands. I also take a physical conditioning class at school, which focuses on weight training and participate in a leadership lab to train for running a 5K for charity. I am dedicated to continually improving myself and achieving my highest potential at whatever I choose to pursue. I love swimming because it makes me feel healthy and accomplished.
This past summer I had the opportunity to work as junior coach for a summer league swim program. My responsibilities included supervising practices, individual stroke clinics, coaching at meets, teaching stroke techniques during group practice, attending coaching meetings, and setup for meets and clean up afterwards. I found that the younger children really responded to my enthusiasm and energy. I was able to translate the experience I have as a swimmer to teach and instill confidence in others. It was a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to coaching again next summer. Working with children on something I am passionate about is such a blessing!
Outside of swimming I enjoy running, cooking and baking, spending time with my friends and family, traveling, and playing with my dogs.
I believe I have so much room to grow as a competitive swimmer and I genuinely hope a college will recognize that, give me a chance, and train me to reach my fullest potential in and out of the pool.
