Hi, my name is Maggie Heinrich and I love to swim. Currently, I will be a senior at Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Illinois. I have been swimming competitively year round since age 7 for the Edwardsville Breakers YMCA Swimming club team. My freshman and sophomore year I also swam for the EHS high school team. In August 2016 I moved from the Edwardsville Breakers YMCA club team to the FAST-Flyers in St. Louis, MO. The FAST team is coached by Jim Halliburton and Raz Cuparencu. Because of the intense workouts and top-notch technical training, I decided not to swim high school swim my junior year and focus on developing my swimming skills with the FAST coaching staff. (Illinois does not allow a swimmer to participate on a club team during the high school season).
My strongest and most favorite stroke is the backstroke. However, on my club and high school teams I swim all strokes with freestyle, butterfly, and breast being my order of preference. Swimming all strokes has allowed me to develop a strong liking for backstroke and individual and medley relay events.
Being part of a college swim team is an important goal for me. My primary goal is to have the opportunity to go to college and earn an academic degree in my preferred area of study. Being around swimmers has made me aware of the various types of injuries that both swimmers and athletes from other sports deal with on a regular basis. My ultimate desire is to utilize both my swimming abilities, as well as my academic grades, to attend a college that will give me the opportunity to earn a degree in orthopedic medicine.
Swimming has taught me the value of passion, dedication, and hard work to attain goals. If given the opportunity, I will conduct myself to the highest standards my parents have taught me. I know I would be a credit to any college or university I would attend; my college or university team; and myself. I can't wait to talk with coaches and begin my journey.
